Budget Allocation demanded for women development

Human and women right activists on Wednesday demanded special
allocation in the budget of Barisal City Corporation for stopping
early marriage, sexual harassment and preventing violence on women.
The made these demand at a news briefing organized by Barisal NGOs
Development Network in cooperation with Step Towards Development at
Gender Development Resource Center auditorium in the city.
The BNDN president, Anwar Zahid, presided over the meeting  while its
project coordinator Sukumar Mitra presented the keynote paper at the
briefing.
The rights activists urged the BCC administration for special
allocation in the city budget for developing and empowering women as
well as assuring their social and legal safety.
They demanded city budget allocations for issue based campaign and
propagation's of punishment against early marriage, torture against
women, domestic and family violence.
They also recommended for preserving copies of birth and educational
certificates, national identity card before registering any marriage.
Abual Masud Mamun, chief assessor, Abul Hossain, administrative
officer of BCC and leading activists of human and women rights
addressed the programme, among others.
