Department of Environment (DoE), Chittagong Division here today observed World Environment Day through arranging different programmes.
On the occasion, a colorful rally led by Divisional Commissioner Sirajul Haque Khan carrying festoons, banners was brought out from city's outer stadium at 8.30 am which paraded different streets in the city.
A large number of people from all walks of life including students, activists of NGOs, environmentalists and representative of several professional bodies participated in the rally.
Besides, essay and art competition was held at Muslim Institute Hall where a number of students from city's different schools took part there.
After holding grand rally, a discussion meeting was held at the same venue. Divisional Commissioner Sirajul Haque Khan attended the meeting as the chief guest while DoE, divisional director Jafar Alam in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Faiz Ahmed attended the function as the special guest.
Later, the chief guest distributed prizes among the winners and also distributed fruits and medicinal saplings among the students and representatives.
