A research programme has been taken up for improvement Jum cultivation, a traditional agricultural activity conducted by small ethnic group of hilly people, aimed at making it time befitting and echo-friendly.
The research programme began by organizing a workshop at the conference room of the Rangamati district council chairman's office here on Sunday funded by UNDP.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman of Rangamati district council Nikhil Kumar Chakma urged the agriculturists to spread the knowledge achieved from the research among the Jum cultivators throughout the hill districts.
During the workshop, two researchers Harun-ur-Rashid and Proban Chakma of Raikhali Agricultural Research Institute of the district presented two findings of their works on Jum cultivation, office sources said.
